In June 2019, E. Jean Carroll, a noted advice columnist, author, and journalist accused Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, of sexually assaulting her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury department store in New York City, in the mid-1990s. Trump has denied the allegations, calling them "fake news."

According to E. Jean Carroll, the incident occurred in late 1995 or early 1996. She was shopping at Bergdorf Goodman when she saw Donald Trump, who recognized her from TV. Trump struck up a conversation with her, and they talked about her career and his business for about 15 minutes.

Carroll stated that as they were leaving, Trump asked her for advice on buying a gift for a woman. He suggested lingerie and asked her to try it on, saying it would be funny. They went to the lingerie section of the store, and he urged her to try on a bodysuit. She went into the dressing room, and he followed her in.

Carroll claimed that as soon as the door closed behind them, Trump pinned her against the wall, kissed her forcefully and aggressively, groped her breasts, and put his hand under her skirt so forcefully that she thought he would rape her. She managed to push him away and escape and said that she left the store immediately.

According to Carroll's account, she told two friends about the assault at the time but did not report it to the police. She decided to come forward with her story in 2019 as part of the publicity tour for her new book, What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal. Carroll's allegations were included in the book, which was released in July 2019.

Trump has denied the allegations, calling Carroll a liar and saying that he never met her. He also claimed that she used the story to promote her book and that he had never sexually assaulted anyone. He said in a statement that the allegations were "fake news" and that Carroll was "trying to sell a new book—that should indicate her motivation."

Carroll filed a lawsuit against Trump in November 2019, accusing him of defamation for denying her allegations and implying that she was lying to promote her book. In March 2020, a judge rejected Trump's attempt to dismiss the case, ruling that the president was not immune to the lawsuit while in office. The case is still ongoing.

The allegations against Trump came amid the #MeToo movement, which prompted many women to speak out about sexual harassment and assault they had experienced. Trump has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least 19 women, many of whom have made similar allegations of unwanted touching, groping, and kissing.

In conclusion, the alleged incident involving E. Jean Carroll and Donald Trump has raised serious concerns about sexual assault and harassment and the accountability of public figures. While Trump has denied the allegations, the case remains an important reminder of the need to take all allegations of sexual assault seriously, and to hold perpetrators accountable.
